AVONDALE – Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy awarded the first scholarships from their Burgundy and Gold Scholarship Fund on Monday, June 3, at the school’s Awards Day Assembly.
The scholarship fund was established this year from contributions by staff, faculty and friends of the school.
The $2,500 Burgundy and Gold Scholarship is awarded to a student who exhibits a passion for learning, self-motivation and a desire to succeed. Consideration is also given to one’s character, leadership and community involvement.
This year’s recipient is Stephanie Ryanne Corder, daughter of Cameron and April Corder of Shelby. Ryanne plans to attend the University of Notre Dame in the fall and major in pre-med.
A second $2,500.00 scholarship, funded by a private donation and known as the S.T.E.M. Scholarship, is targeted toward a student who is pursuing a major in science, technology, engineering or math. The student should possess a strong work-ethic and show consistency and dedication in areas of involvement.
The 2012 S.T.E.M. recipient is Kristen Taylor Miller, daughter of Sherry Matheny and Henry Miller. Kristen plans to attend NC State University and major in poultry and animal science.
The Burgundy and Gold Scholarship Fund exists for the purpose of offering numerous substantial scholarships to TJCA-CFA college-bound students.
